Remember chainmail? it is small metal parts linked together such that it can be used as fabric. Whiting & Davis is a more than a century old company that makes chainmail here in the USA. We bought the “chain/fabric” from them to make these beauts.

Each is a 1 1/2” square that hangs in a diamond on the ear. They are not heavy!
